COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW TIPS

Finally, all your hard work has paid off and you have received an invitation for the scholarship interview. Wait, it is too early for you to start rejoicing. This is only the first step. The interview is an extremely crucial stage as this is where the committee will actually decide whether you are the right candidate for the scholarship.

You will need to sell yourself to the best of your abilities. The better prepared you are for the interview; more will be your chances of securing it. You certainly don’t want to leave anything to chance at this stage.

Let us look at the things that will help you clinch the scholarship.

  • Make certain that you are sure and can speak confidently about the reasons for you having chosen a particular field of study. The committee wants to see your commitment towards your goals and course of study.
  • Find out as much as you can about your particular field of study. Get to know the future prospects about that particular field.
  • Write down the reasons why you are the right candidate for the scholarship compared to the others. Enlist all your strengths and participation in different fields such as sports, community service and showcase your all round personality. Practice the answers with someone who can give you constructive feedback on how you are faring.
  • Make sure that you are sure about your opinions and what you really believe in. the committee loves to see conviction in people about their goals and the choice of study.
  • You will be asked in-depth questions about your financial status. Do not shy away from answering them. These are to let them know and give them enough evidence about your really needing the money. They want to ensure that it goes to the one who needs it and deserves it the most.
  • Be organized as that will save you a lot of headaches. Make sure that all your paperwork is in order and all the necessary documents are filed well in order to be retrieved immediately. Even though you might not have been specifically asked to bring your resume or documents along carry them all with you. Just in case you might need them they will be right there.
  • Look at your answers again just before you go for the interview. Your answers must be convincing and show your genuine need for the scholarship.
  • Lastly, dress well for the interview. First impressions are very important and your clothes will convey a lot about you. Select the attire beforehand and keep it ready.
  • On the day of the interview, do not get nervous. Answer all the questions posed to you confidently and honestly. Smile and create a positive impression about you by way of your body language and poise. Maintain courtesy and a in control demeanor.
