COMMON JOB INTERVIEW MISTAKES
July 18th, 2009 Posted by VFreshersBeing called for an interview means that your CV has passed the acid test and the interviewer would like to meet you in person to take the process to the next stage.
Now, it is your turn to present yourself in such a manner that the interviewer wants to grab you for the job.
However, there are plenty of people who make these common mistakes and regret it as soon as they step out of the interview room.
- Dress inappropriately: the way you are dressed speaks volumes about you. Every organization has an image and they would like you to fit into that. Dress conservatively and appropriately. No loud colors, make-up or high heeled shoes. You do not want to stand out like a sore thumb.
- Unprepared: Lots of times jobseekers (or Fresher Students) go for interviews not having prepared what they are going to say or not having gone through the companies’ website. This lets them know how serious you are about working at the company.
- Questions: When it is your turn to ask the questions and you do not it just shows the interviewer that you are really not interested in this particular company. They want you to showcase your eagerness for the role.
- Research: If you are able to impress the interviewer by letting them know about their latest products, mergers, acquisitions or the names of the top honchos they will know that you have taken the interview seriously. They do not want you wasting their time when they know you are not the right fit for them.
- The use of the language: If you are unable to use the language correctly with lots of grammatical and pronunciation errors creeping in the interviewer might just not want to continue the process. They want someone on board who can represent their organization and build their brand. A person who is unable to communicate effectively is certainly not going to be a good employee.
- Body language: At the interview your body language can give you away. If you sit slouched and convey a negative image the interviewer is certainly going to have second thoughts. Maintain eye contact, face the interviewer, mind your gestures and sound confident and assertive. Remain alert as not doing so will let slip things that you might not have wanted to. Also, the same thing might be asked later on in the interview to check if you speaking the truth.
- Checking the time: If you do so at the interview the interviewer will be furious and know that you are not listening attentively.
- Mobile phone not kept on silent: Just as you want to feel important the interviewer has the upper hand. If you don’t make them feel as though you have put the whole world on hold for them and are one hundred percent theirs.
These are the things that you must never do if you want to come out of the interview with flying colors and get the coveted job & salary.
