Applications are invited from Indian Citizens for appointment to Group ‘A’ post of Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant) and Medical Officers (Assistant Commandant) in Central Police Forces (BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. On joining, a candidate shall be governed by the Act and Rules, as applicable to the organization to which he/she is allotted after selection and as amended from time to time. Selected candidates will be liable to serve anywhere in Union of India or outside.
The candidate called for interview shall be paid travelling expenses as admissible under the provision of Ministry of Finance, Government of India OM No. F.19045/ 1/74-E. IV (B) dated 30.01.76 (Government of India decision No. 5 and 8 below SR 132). As per this order, a single ordinary bus fare or single 2nd class rail fare chargeable by the shortest route, from the railway station nearest to the normal place of residence or from which they actually performed the journey whichever is nearer to the place of Interview, for distances in excess of 250 Kms for each outward and return journeys, shall be payable to the candidates appearing for interviews. However, in the cases of candidates belonging to SC/ST communities, 2nd class rail fare or bus fare shall be payable tothe candidate provided that the fare of the first 30 Kms for both outward and returned journey is born by the candidate . In both the cases, it will be subject to production of certificate of unemployment from an MP or MLA or Gazetted Officer of the place where he is residing.
The Cadre of Specialist Medical Officers and Medical Officers of the above organizations has been re-structured on the pattern of Central Health Service. The post of Specialist Medical Officer and Medical Officer, Group ‘A’ is combatized in the rank of Deputy Commandant and Assistant Commandant respectively that the rank structure is commensurating to their pay scale in the cadre, subject to instructions issued from time to time.
Designation: Deputy Commandant (Specialist Medical Officer)
Number of Openings: 259 posts in various CPOs (CRPF-145, BSF-67, ITBP-19, Assam Rifles – 7, SSB-21) in various Specilaities
Designation: Assistant Commandant (Medical Officer)
Number of Openings: 283 posts in various CPOs (CRPF-4, BSF-62, ITBP-131, Assam Rifles – 56, SSB-30) in various Specilities
Qualifications/Experience
For Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant)
(a) A recognized medical qualification of allopathic system of medicine included in the first or second schedule of Part–II of the third schedule (other than licentiate qualification) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Holders of educational qualification included in Part–II of the third schedule should also fulfil the condition stipulated in Sub Section (3) of Section (13) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
(b) Completion of compulsory rotating internship.
(c) Should also possess Post Graduate Degree/Diploma from a recognized University/Institution in the concerned speciality mentioned in Section ‘A’ or Section ‘B’ in schedule-I or equivalent and one and a half years experience in the concerned speciality after obtaining PG Degree or two and half years experience after obtaining PG Diploma.
For Medical Officers (Assistant Commandant)
(a) A recognized medical qualification of allopathic system of medicine included in the first or second schedule of Part–II of the third schedule (other than licentiate qualification) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Holders of educational qualification included in Part–II of the third schedule should also fulfil the condition stipulated in Sub Section (3) of Section (13) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
(b) Completion of compulsory rotating internship. Candidates, who may not have completed the rotating internship, shall be eligible to apply and appear for the interview, provided that if selected, they shall have satisfactorily completed the compulsory internship before appointment.
Pay Scale
For Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant)
Rs.15,600 – 39,100/- plus Grade pay Rs.6,600/- per month plus other benefits like Non Practicing Allowance, Dearness Allowances, Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance and any other allowances as admissible under Rules would be admissible as per the Central
Government orders/provisions in existence and as amended from time to time. No Post Graduate allowance will be admissible as the basic essential qualification for the post is Post Graduate degree/diploma in a particular field of specialization.
For Medical Officers (Assistant Commandant)
Rs.15,600 – 39,100/- plus Grade pay Rs.5,400/- per month plus other benefits like Non Practicing Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance and any other allowances as admissible under Rules would be admissible as per the Central Government orders/provisions in existence and as amended from time to time. The age of superannuation ofSpecialist Medical Officers and Medical Officers will be 60 years.
Age Limit:
For Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant)
The age limit for recruitment of Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant) shall
not exceed 35 years as on the last date of receipt of application i.e. 15th Jan., 2010. Relaxation in
age limit will be admissible as under:-
(a) The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST candidates by five years for OBC candidates by three years.
(b) Up to a maximum of five years in the case of Government servants.
(c) Age relaxation is applicable in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Govt. from time to time.
(d) The crucial date for determining the age limit will be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in general i.e. 15th Jan., 2010 and not the closing date prescribed for those in Andaman, Nicobar Island, Lakshawdweep, North Eastern Region, Ladakh Division of J&K State, Sikkim, Pangi sub division of Chamba District, and Lahaul Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh.
For Medical Officers (Assistant Commandant)
The age limit for recruitment of Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) shall not exceed 30 years as on the last date of receipt of application i.e. 15th Jan., 2010. Relaxation in age limit will be admissible as under:-
(a) The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST candidates by five years and three years for OBC candidates.
(b) Up to a maximum of five years in the case of Government servants and Medical Graduates who joined the Army Medical Corps as Short Service Regular Commissioned Officers and are released after completing the initial period of assignment of five years. The age relaxation up to five years shall also be admissible to the Short Service Commission Officers whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence has issued a certificate that they will be released on three months notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment. The relaxation in age limit shall be admissible up to a maximum of ten years if such Govt. servant and SSCOs belong to the Scheduled Caste or the Scheduled Tribes and up to a maximum of eight years, if such officer belongs to the Other Backward classes (OBCs).
(c) Age relaxation is applicable in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Govt. from time to time.

Option From Candidates:
A candidate may opt for the post of Specialist Medical Officer or Medical Officer in any one or more CPFs mentioned above. For this purpose he/she will be required to indicate clearly the name of CPF for which he/she wishes to be considered in the order of preference. While making appointment, due consideration will be given to the preferences exercised by the candidate and having regard to his rank in the order of merit.
Steps to Apply: Application as per the specimen given below should reach at the following address on or before 15th Jan., 2010 other than candidates from Andaman, Nicobar Island, Lakshawdweep North Eastern Region, Ladakh Division of J&K State, Sikkim, Pangi sub Division of Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh, in whose case the applications should reach on or before 30th Jan, 2010.
