You might have often wondered how exactly a Curriculum Vitae (CV) differs from a resume. Well, they differ in content, length and purpose. A CV is longer and more like a detailed synopsis whereas a resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education.
Like a resume,a CV should include your name, contact information, education, skills and experience. In addition, a CV includes research and teaching experience, publications, grants and fellowships, professional associations, awards and other information relevant to the position you are applying for. While writing a CV one should be very clear with the objective. The objective should be a short, concise statement that informs the employer what kind of position you are looking for.
Unlike a CV, a resume would contain of only what is strictly relevant to the job applied and nothing else – it is more important here to have all the information contained within one page, that representing the information it in totality. The CV is the most accepted form for job applications all over the world(most commonly in Europe) , however, companies in USA prefer resume over CV.
A resume should be short on words but long on facts. But a CV may have a detailed documentation of your achievements. However, both resume and CV should necessarily have a flattering and factual representation of your skills.
