EMPLOYMENT SCENARIO IN INDIA 2009
September 4th, 2009 Posted by VFreshersEmployment in simple words can be defined as an occupation by which a person can earn his living. And for a country like India, employment has become one of the major challenges of the current economy. Therefore, emphasis is given on providing more employment opportunities which in turn reflects on economic growth of the country.
Employment was treated as the major subject in Five-Year plans and many changes emerged out of this commission to improve the economic background of the Indian population. Regular surveys are conducted once in five years to keep track of estimated working population in the country.
Majority of people in India mainly depend on agricultural occupation which is subjected to seasonal changes. This has become one of the main reasons of economic downtrodden condition. To tackle this problem, there are scenarios where farmers and agricultural related people are often engaged in other industries like exports and manufacturing during this period to improvise on the economic strategy of the country. Rapid increase in population and lack of private investment promoters are also the key factors that has a major impact on growth and stabilization of economy. The government must provide better opportunities for the literates to help them acquire good jobs and careers with the introduction of comprehensive educative programs which are in pace with other developing countries.
According to survey conducted by National Sample Survey in 1999-2000, only 7% of the Indian population were working in organized sectors and the major part were working in unorganized sectors. Agricultural laborers contributed for the major work force in unorganized or informal sectors. The percentage of population working for formal organizations must be increased to a large extent to attain fast and rapid growth in economy of the country. This depends on many factors like increase in literacy rate, comprehensive programs to train the youngsters according to the new technology trends and providing improvised techniques in the field of agriculture to the farmers and educate them about the modern methods of farming to gain more beneficial results.
The present day recession has become one of the recent threats and has aggravated the problem of employment all over the world and India is not an exception for that. Major work from other countries like USA, UK and other European countries are outsourced to India and this is a real-time solution for the unemployment problem among the literates residing in different cities of the country. This contributed for the increase of employed population in the country, however this accounts for the increased work force employed in informal organizations only.
This recessional period has left the whole world in an embarassing and depressing state as many people has lost their jobs and careers. Nobody is guaranteed of their job as even the employer is also in a terribly bad condition. This recession will not last for long time and all the industries will pick up in a short time.
