ENGLISH LANGUAGE CAREERS: JOB PROSPECTS IN INDIA

Therfore there is a great demand for English linguists in many fields where there are more chances of building a strong relationship with other nations. These english professionals can work as tour guides and operators in tourism departments and agencies, institutes, call centres, customer care services, interpreters, translators and data entry operators. There is an increased chance of varying designations and job options to these graduates and master degree holders in this field.
After passing out from pre-university colleges, students can take up a degree course in arts and literature pertaining to english language to obtain educational hold about the subject. It is offered by many colleges and institutes, but getting admitted to a reputed college which has good english professors and lecturers proves to be definitely an advantage to your career. As english is the globally spoken language, proficiency and perfectionalism is very much appreciated if you have to get a job related to any of the above mentioned areas.
To get a job as a teacher in any of the english medium schools, graduate degree is suficient and you will be paid a fair salary of around Rs.8K-Rs.15K depending on your communication skills, vocabulary and experience. However, if you have finished your masters degree or Ph.D., in English literature then you are preferred in colleges and institutes as Professors. Salary structure for these experienced and master degree holders range from Rs.15K-20K per month depending on the type of organisation you are recruited in.
English linguists can also start their own business as interpreters and translators which will fetch them Rs.250-Rs.500 on an hourly basis depending on the job type. Translators are also preferred in foreign embassies and government organisations to perform various tasks like preparing and designing presentation programs of the company, collection and organisation of data, printing and publishing organisational news and views to the public etc.
They can also work as journalists, column writers, public relations officers if they are interested in current affairs and public issues. English graduates are required by media and publishing industries also to perform duties like proofreading, article writing, content rewriting and publishing the write-ups.
These english language professionals are also recruited by tourism department and ministry of foreign affairs to serve the officials as translators and help in development of strong bonds with other countries like USA, UK, Australia and many other European countries. They can also work as tourist guides and tour operators in private travel agencies.
English has been included in the primary education curriculum as a medium of instruction in many developing countries like China, India, Malaysia, Japan to help children get acquainted with the language more easily right from their school age which will fetch them more career opportunities in various fields globally.
