Indian Air Force is the air wing of the Indian Army. Many young men of the country dream of joining this prestigious organization because of the glamour and respect they get in the country. It is not everyone’s forte to join this part of the Indian Army as the procedure us really strict. One has to undergo a lot of tests and scrutinizes to get selected for the post of a Pilot in Indian Air Force.
The President of India is the nominal head of Indian Armed forces who is assisted by a Defence Minister, the Indian Prime Minister and the National Security Council in the endearment. An Air Chief Marshal is the supreme commander who is helped by six other officers namely the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, Air Officer in Charge of Personnel, Air Officer in Charge of Maintenance, Inspector General of Flight Safety and Air Officer in Charge of Administration together who serve to protect the nation.
To become a Pilot in Indian Air Force one needs to undergo competitive examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission. These exams are held twice in a year in the months of February and September. The UPSC notifies through newspapers across the country about the examinations. Candidates willing to take the examination are free to choose the services they aspire to join. However this very much depends on their rank in the merit list.
The eligibility criterion depends on the nationality of an applicant, then the stream of education which is 10+2 Physics and Mathematics and the age which plays a vital role is 16 ½ to 19 years of age. The details of this will be found in the form while applying itself. Besides this if one wants to join the Combined Defence Service Examination then the standard slightly differs like the age limit is extended to 19 to 23 years. As for the education paradigm is concerned it becomes graduation with first class marks with a combination of Physics and Mathematics, B.E. and B.Tech with four years and final year students can also apply who have 60% or above marks in the previous semester or year.
On the basis of the above mentioned points an application is first scrutinized for an aspirant to qualify. Then if one clears the written tests then a call letter is received. A string of psychometric tests are conducted to check on the fact whether candidate is good enough to become an officer or not and has Officer like Qualities. This is coupled with group discussion and physical tests. Based on the results of these tests an applicant is selected according to the IQ and marks and is assigned a post.
Above all it can be said that it may be difficult to join the forces but it is not impossible. If one is determined then s/he can surely go ahead with their dreams of getting the wings. Becoming a Pilot in Indian Air Force is makes one prominent in the country who has different recognition and is admired by all.
