If you are determined to get yourself a fellowship in funding your studies then you must apply certain tested strategies to this. There is no dearth of scholarships or fellowships out there; all you need to do is to focus right. The competition is really fierce for these scholarships and you will have to fight your way to them. You must be in a position to prove to the committee about your worthiness to receive the scholarship and be able to differentiate yourself from the rest.
Firstly, apply for more than one scholarship. This way you will not end up putting all your eggs in one basket only. Research will certainly fetch you good returns in this case. Apply to as many as you are eligible for and if you get more than one scholarship then ask if you can combine them.
Secondly, prepare and plan your steps clearly. If you don’t plan enough then you are bound to be disappointed in your pursuit of a scholarship. Showcase your focus and determination. Write down your goals so you are clear about them and can explain them succinctly to the committee. The clearer you are about why and for what you need the scholarship the better are your chances of securing one.
Thirdly, ensure that your references will vouch for you and hold a certain standing in society. Ask for letters of reference from people who are in the same profession as you. The references that you cite must know well about you and be able to explain your positives and strengths. They must know about the scholarship, and your goals and study. The letter of reference must also be able to tell the reader precisely and clearly all of this.
Fourthly, talk to as many people about scholarships as possible. Find out from colleges, universities, student advisors, seniors and people who have received scholarships all that you can. There is nothing like too much of information in this case. Read about people who have received scholarships and all about their success stories. This will let you know exactly what the committee looks for.
Once you have written your letters, references and application forms ask someone to proofread them. They will be able to give you a different perspective to it and also pick errors you might have missed. A professionally written essay will go a long way in ensuring your success in securing a scholarship.
Ensure that you are professional at all times. The application must be perfect with no errors at all, Check for spellings and grammatical errors with a fine comb. Make certain that you have followed all the instructions down to the T. Do not delay sending the application. Leave buffer time in between for any contingencies and time lapses.
Finally, don’t give up hope. Remember the adage that patience always pays. Don’t give up hope the moment your first scholarship application is rejected. You must keep on applying and you are bound to come up a winner. Persistence and tenacity will certainly help you find the scholarship that is just right for you.
