LAW SCHOOLS: ADMISSION TIPS

September 7th, 2009 Posted by VFreshers

Once you have decided to enter a law school you need to do specific things to ensure that you are able to get into the best law school which will be a real leverage for your career.

The first thing that you need to do is read through the application forms carefully and determines the exact requirements for the program and whether you meet all of those.

Photocopy all the forms and maintain them in separate files for each law school that you have applied for. Ensure that while you are filling out the form you stick to all the rules and policies as stated. If you are not sure of any question then do not be tempted to write whatever you assume it to be. Rather call up the office and find out exactly what they expect.

Make certain that your application along with all the necessary documents and write-ups presents a professional and well-thought of outlook.

Proofread and edit what you have written. Have someone else do that for you too. A single mistake might change the status of your application.

Devote enough time to the finding of law schools and what do they stand for. Then narrow down on those you would like to attend and begin your application preparations from there onwards. Do not randomly apply to all the Law Schools.

Top law schools certainly look for numbers as in your scores for the entrance tests, and marks you have secured for all the other examinations. When you are preparing for a law exam be it LSAT or CLIT you can increase your score by looking at the previous year’s papers and preparing accordingly. By studying these papers you will be able to find out the format of the paper and what you can expect during the test. Once you are familiar with the pattern you can time yourself and solve as many papers as possible. In these tests timing is of great importance.

After you have clinched the deal with the scores, officials look for a diverse set of experience. If you have been active in your community or have worked with a certain section of the society then this will hold you in good stead. Your personal statement must reflect your commitment and focus. You must demonstrate your interest in the particular field.

You must be certain about what you expect to do after you graduate from the law school. This will give you the road map to know exactly where you are going and motivate you to study hard and if asked be able to explain that eloquently.

You must be clear about why you want to be a lawyer and what are your unique skills that will enable you to achieve this?

When preparing for the Law School Admission works on your grammar and sentence construction. Do not be verbose and learn to write concisely. Do not wander away from the main topic. Read up enough about the legal happenings in your country.
