LSAT Exam Introduction

The Law School Admission Test(LSAT) Examination is a half-day test. This test is based on set and standardized pattern and is conducted four times in a year. You can attend this test at the designated test centers which are located throughout the world. Many renowned law schools expect you to take the LSAT and these scores are considered crucial while applying for the admission.

Most of the times, the LSAT is administered on Saturdays and at times on Mondays too. The Law schools expect you to appear for the LSAT in December if you are planning to apply for a fall term. However, the sooner you appear for it the better. Although the law schools evaluate your complete potential as a candidate for Law School from all perspectives your LSAT scores do play a vital role.

LSAT Exam Sections

The LSAT test is divided predominantly into five sections. Each of these sections are about 35 minutes each and all the questions are based on the multiple choice format. Four out of these five sections go on to contribute to your overall score. The fifth section, which can appear anywhere, is used to pretest the new test questions. At the end of the LSAT you will have to provide a writing sample. The duration for this too is 35 minutes. Although this writing sample is not scored it is sent to all the law schools that you are applying to.

The LSAT is so designed to go on to find out whether you are a potential candidate for the law schools based on certain parameters. These are skills that are crucial when you are studying at the law school and when you go on to become a lawyer.

LSAT Exam Question Types

The three multiple choice question types are:

Reading and Comprehension which goes on to test your ability to read large texts fairly quickly and gain inference from it. This tests your ability to comprehend various sections of writing and gain enough insight in it to be able to form an opinion.

Analytical Reasoning. This section goes on to evaluate whether you can think logically after having understood, analyzed and looked at several different angles. After looking at a set of statements, rules or conditions you are expected to derive the answer. This is a kind of simulation for situations that a law student will face in trying to come to a conclusion for legal problems.

Logical Reasoning. This section tests whether you are able to think coherently and sequentially to come to a predefined conclusion. The questions are so framed so as to test your ability to reason and think critically and creatively.

Once you register for the LSAT you must go ahead with it. You are not allowed to cancel your registration. You can register for the LSAT Examination either online, by telephone or by a mail registration.

If you have registered by email then you will receive your scores approximately after three weeks of taking the test and in case of mail by four weeks.
