Everyone wants to jump on to the MBA bandwagon as they know of the lucrative jobs and career options that await them at the end of it. However, what you do need to realize is that just an MBA degree under your belt is not the only thing that is going to help you. But, what will actually propel your career to the next rung of the ladder is the ability to have the right kind of MBA from one of the premier institutions that are a force to be reckoned with. Now, in order to get a seat in one of these institutions what you actually need is expereince that will help you stand out from the rest of the crowd.
There are many students who go in for an MBA degree right after they have done their graduation with the foresight that they will complete their studies in one go and then start hunting for a job. However, things are different in the real world and what companies look for are not only the degrees that you hold and the educational qualifications that you can go on to showcase but also the kind of skills that you can bring to the table and make the organization more profitable. This can only be possible once you have the requisite amounts of expereince with you.
The thing that you do need to keep in mind is that paper qualifications are not the in thing but what you need is sufficient amounts of experience to be able to back you up. Without experience all the paper qualifications that you might hold get completely nullified.
Also, you will have a long way to go if you just have the qualifications compared to the others with both on them. You will find that you need to do a whole lot of practical on the job skills learning to be able to catch up with them. This will ascertain that the guys with the right amounts of relevant experience as well as the qualifications will be able to get ahead in the race far faster than you.
Also, good MBA schools want people with the relevant and adequate amounts of experience in order to be able to work on the case studies and contribute to the invigorating discussions that are a part and parcel of the study. You will need to make the right kind of recommendations and suggestions and without experience you won’t be able to participate.
Moreover, there might be times when lecturers get more impressed by the folks who have the experience and therein go on to concentrate more on them. This is unconsciously done but the experienced guys do steal the limelight and therefore get to gain far more from an MBA. Another reason, is that an MBA gets you ready for middle management or supervisory positions, and would you be employed by someone when you have no experience in that domain.
