National Defence Academy India
It is one of the oldest academy, which was setup in the year 1954, with its headquarters at Khadakwasla, Pune spanning a total area of around 8,300 acres. The cadets of all the three wings army, navy and air force are trained jointly before they go for their pre-commission training to their respective academies.
The joint services Academy was a consequence of the ruthless World wars and its pragmatic experiences dictated the need to train the future leaders for mutual operations.
A course in NDA lays a firm groundwork for a career in Indian military services. It helps to transform the fledging unbridled intellect to a more sophisticated responsible individual.
The entire coursework is for 3 years which includes all conventional subjects of a university degree (B.Sc., B.A., and B.Sc. Comp Sc.) along with high emphasis on basic training of fundamental military sciences. In the preliminary two years, the cadets are made to focus & are strained on the tri services, followed by a further rigorous training in any one of these service for which he was carefully chosen.
The main focus of the training revolves around the inclusive development right from academic training, military strategies, and outdoor activities to strenuous physical training, firing etc. On successful completion of the course, the cadet is given a University Degree (affiliated to the JNU, New Delhi) and goes on to the training establishments of the Service he has opted for.
