Ophthalmologists are medically certified physicians specialised in eye ailments and disabilities. It involves study of two major categories-medicine and surgery in this subject. Ophthalmologists are often confused for optometrists but these are two different professions though both of them deal with eyes and visual system.
Ophthalmologists are doctors who are experts in this field and who have already finished their primary degree level in specialization of visual aid and it parts. They would have regular consultations and visits to various hospitals and health care clinics to serve their patients. There are many areas of specializations for those who have to pursue their career in ophthalmology. Some of them could be listed as below:

Demand for these ophthalmologists have increased in recent times because of new inventions and technology related treatments like LASER Surgery to correct many eye defects. According to surveys conducted recently, it has been believed that career growth and opportunities are wide for young and recently passed out specialized ophthalmologists. They are hired by hospitals and Senior ophthalmologists to keep them as Assistants and it serves as an advantage to these juniors also as they can get hands on experience and deal with new cases and learn by the same to grow in this career. Ophthalmologists are even recruited by institutions for Lecturer and Professor jobs to teach these above mentioned specialized subjects and research centers will hire these physicians to involve them in testimonials and researches where there will be on going projects to explore themselves and prosper in this field.
Training programs are offered by many reputed medical institutions to cater to the pupils’ requirements in various parts of the world. It is a subject of great interest and innovation which can be pursued by young doctors as their profession.
There are attractive remunerations and salary packages in this field as there are only countable number of experts in this area who aspire to work. It is very difficult to predict the exact pay structure but it is a good paying job as most of the specialists are keen on setting up their own private clinics or eye care centres rather than taking up teaching or research as their profession. Institutes require a lot of lecturers and professionals for teaching these subjects and help in expanding this medical field by providing more number of ophthalmologists to the medical industry.
