Indian Economic Service (IES) / Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination 2010
Job Detail :
The Union Public Service commission will hold the Indian Economic Service (IES)/ Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination commencing from 04th December 2010 for recruitment to Grade IV of the Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS). The examination will be held at various centres across the country.
The Services to which recruitment is to be made on the results of this examination and the approximate number of vacancies in Grade IV of the Services are given below :-
(i) Indian Economic Service – 15
(ii) Indian Statistical Service – 20
The number of vacancies mentioned above is liable to alteration.
Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled Categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government of India.
A candidate may compete for any one of the Services only viz. the Indian Economic Service or the Indian Statistical Service, for which he/she is eligible in terms of the rules.

Age Limit :
Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st January, 2010. Relaxation in the upper age limit as per Govt. of India rules.
Educational Qualification :
A candidate for the Indian Economic Service (IES) must have obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Economics/Applied Economis/ Business Economics/ Econometrics and candidate for the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) must have obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics / Applied Statistics from a recognised University.
candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for Indian Economic Service / Indian Statistical Servicce Examination, 2010 as prescribed in the detailed advertisement.
Age Limits :
(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st January, 2010, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1980 and not later than 1st January, 1989.
(b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable as follows:–
(i) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
(ii) upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
(iii) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.
(iv) upto a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof:
(v) upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st January, 2010 and have been released (i) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st January, 2010) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (iii) on invalidment.
(vi) upto a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service as on 1st January, 2010 and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issue a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three month’s notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.
(vii) upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons.
(a) Candidates who wish to apply Offline must apply in the Common Application form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- (Rupees Twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

(b) Candidates can also apply Online using the link http://www.upsconline.nic.in. Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.
(c) Candidates are advised to read carefully the “Instructions for filling up the Offline Application Form” given in Appendix-II (A) and Instructions for Online Applications given in Appendix II (B) of this notice.
Application Fee : Rs. 100/- through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of fees. OBC candidates are required to pay full fees.
