Volunteer Internships Vacancies at British Red Cross, London 2011 – UK

About:

We are a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We enable vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help people recover and move on with their lives.

Volunteer Internships:

Are you hoping to work in the charity sector? Are you looking to develop your professional skills, boost your CV and make a real difference to the work that we do?

British Red Cross volunteer internships are available for 8–12 weeks, part-time. We have job placements at our head office in London and across the country.

You can view our current list of internship placements by searching and applying online.

Activities Involved:
As an intern you could be developing a project, conducting some research or planning an event. Your contribution will make a real difference to our organisation.

We offer a wide range of volunteer internships in various departments including:

  • Fundraising
  • International
  • Refugee services
  • Youth and schools
  • Health and social care
  • Marketing and communications
  • Humanitarian policy and partnerships.

Who can apply:

You can apply if you are a university student or graduate, have left school or are looking for voluntary experience in your gap year. We also welcome applications from those returning to the workplace or looking for a change in career.  Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in the voluntary sector.

Positions Available:

1. Community Fundraising Support Internship:
The intern will contribute to a number of national community fundraising projects, gaining experience of project coordination. This will include contributing to fundraising resources and communications which support over 60 geographically dispersed fundraisers and working with other fundraising teams. The role will also involve supporting the smooth running and administration of the department. As the intern will be involved in quite a few projects, this role offers the opportunity to gain a broad insight into community fundraising and also, more broadly, into fundraising for a large organisation.

To apply for this role you must complete the online application form where you will be able to upload a supporting statement together with a copy of your CV.

2. Destitution Project Internship:
The Refugee Support Service provides an advice, casework and emergency provisions service to refugees and asylum seekers in London during a period of crisis. Over 70% of the people approaching the service are destitute and we provide a range of services to meet their needs. The internship is based within our Destitution Project and is comprised of two important aspects. The Grants Project is a vital resource within our destitution work. Through applying to grant organisations we are able to secure desperately needed funds for our clients to meet essential living needs for themselves and their families. Working with the Emergency Provisions Coordinator, the intern is responsible for coordinating and developing this work. The service relies on donations and gifts in kind to supplement the provisions we are able to provide to our clients. The successful applicant would also make a significant contribution to developing this area of work, through coordinating donations and working with our fundraising team to identify new avenues for corporate and community fundraising and gifts in kind opportunities.

This role would be ideal for someone looking to gain experience in a large NGO, develop their skills and experience in project management, supervision of volunteers and knowledge of grant giving bodies and funding projects.

To apply for this role you must complete the online application form where you will be able to upload a supporting statement together with a copy of your CV.

Closing date for applications: 2nd Feb 2011

This exciting internship opportunity has arisen within the National Events Team, which raises money through UK and overseas challenge events such as the London Marathon, New York Marathon and the Great North Run. The team?s 2011 income targets are ambitious and the committed interns within the team play essential roles in reaching that goal.

The opportunity will provide an effective means of developing Events fundraising skills for someone looking for more direct fundraising and events experience. The intern will learn Event fundraising skills by working as a fundraiser and being supported and mentored by more experienced colleagues.
